It’s been a long day… homeschooling my two precious daughters, cleaning house, completing laundry, returning emails and taking “the team” to complete the daily juice deliveries. Let’s not forget that food has to be made for the family… and of course, not just one meal, but three… so in the kitchen I was!

5:30pm quickly approaches and I am thinking to myself ‘what’s my excuse for not going to bikram tonight?’ I’ve gotta have one, I mean, come on! Look at how busy I was all day! I pace about the house asking myself “am I going? am I staying?”

Excuses are EASY!! And waaaaay overused! What was I trying to get out of? Healing my body and gaining more strength from my practice?? The excuses didn’t measure up to my bikram possibilities.

6pm is here and I announce to the family that Mom is going to yoga tonight I receive a dozen kisses and hugs and little waves from the home windows as I cruise away.

6:30pm… yoga begins.

Now, take a little bit of time while reading this next little bit and imagine you being ME… try to envision what it is that I experienced in my class tonight…

My mind is filled with thoughts from the week… frustrating thoughts, heartbreaking thoughts, thoughts of questions. I place my mat on the floor in the Torture Chamber and sit staring at myself in the mirror in front of me. “Clear your thoughts, Malynda. Let it all go. It is all out of your control. This is your time now.” and with a full inhale and relieving exhale, my mind was quiet. and for the first time today, I sit calm and ready!

Class begins and my focus is all on my inner strength and outer goddess Long in length… strong in heart… confident backbends… smiling in every posture… and energy like nothing else. it was a special time. Just me in my self-reliant bubble making all of me count and all of bikram heal.

I thanked myself numerous times for making the decision to attend class this evening. I thanked myself for just being ME. I laid there at the end of class and gave thanks to this amazing practice… I shared mentally all what I appreciate in this moment of my life… my daughters, my husband, my “job” in which I don’t consider a job at all… it’s my passion! I appreciate my honest and trustworthy friends and the family that is here for me. I appreciate My life.

As I stretch up and out of this coma of thankful thoughts, I gather my water bottle and yoga mat and give one last thanks to each… it’s an entire circle of appreciation.

I enter the ladies locker room and decide to shower before heading home (not something I ever do, I’d rather shower at home). I allow for the cold water to run all over me and for some reason, the chill doesn’t have a negative effect on me… as I use the body wash, I say to myself “all of this weeks bad energy is being washed away as of now” and down the drain it went. I kept washing and rinsing and after 5 minutes of this, I felt brand new. I left the studio with an uplifted soul that I couldn’t wait to shower upon my adoring family once I got home. Life is so precious.

Now, this is the third day of this week that I have attended bikram, and it was in this third day where it has really hit my heart. I was told to stay away from bikram for some time until my electrolyte level has increased (details on that is saved for another future blog post) but felt a great need to step into the practice this week. and with an open heart and clear mind, I appreciate the desire that burned so much in me to get me to class

I love life. I love all of you.

Namaste.

Malynda Twitchell: The “Juice Lady”

You may have heard JohnJay and Rich mention the “juice lady” on the radio. That moniker belongs to Malynda Twitchell, the green goddess behind Akeso Raw Organic Juice Delivery. She makes and delivers the customized organic cold-pressd juice blends right to your door (plant-based meals too)–creative and colorful concoctions that combine fresh, local ingredients. Her clients include celebs and athletes, like the Arizona Cardinals team and Shannon Brown of the Suns. Here, she spills on what you’ll find in her fridge and how it’s better to walk the walk rather than talk the talk (so true!).

Name: Malynda Twitchell

Age: 28

Title: Mother, wife, homeschooler, business owner, friend… AKA Superwoman

Married/Single: Married

Kids: 2 amazing divas!

Live: …to teach

I’m inspired by…

My family! My amazing husband, Ryan, and our two girls, Keira (7) and Tristyn (5). It’s because of them that I want to be the best mother/wife/leader/educator and example I can be.

The perfect day would be…

Saving a life.

Favorite calorie-burner…

H.I.I.T and Bikram Yoga.

My fridge is always stocked with…

Fresh fruits, fresh vegetables and a nice handful of superfoods!

One think I cannot live without…

My books!! I love to read!

The one person who motivates me is…

My Grandpa. I’ve always wanted to make him proud.

No sweat session is complete without…

Electrolyte enhanced water and a yoga mat.

My motivation…

Being the example of a healthy lifestyle. From the food I eat, to the goals I set and accomplish, to being a mother, a wife and a good friend and appreciating all that I am in this life.

My stress relief…

Laughing and dancing with my two girls! Their laughs and innocence take away all stress.

The best medicine…

Is no medicine! Let food be thy medicine… eat to LIVE!! Don’t live to EAT!

I’m listening to…

Keira and Tristyn sing their little hearts out

Best fitness/nutrition advice…

When deciding to set fitness/nutrition goals, always make a vision board! Put everything that want to accomplish up on your vision board, add quotes, words of inspiration… then post that vision board in a place where it is easily to see every single day. MULTIPLE times a day! Then decide to COMMIT and go for it! Give yourself all that you can give… because guess what?? YOU deserve it!!

Best habit…

I’m constantly wanting to learn MORE!

My fitness goal…

To better my Bikram practice.

My healthy haven…

Chakra 4. It’s an all vegan restaurant nestled in a quiet location on Camelback and 20th Street where they also serve raw foods (my kind of eating!).

Secret to happiness…

Keep the negative out, whether it be negative thoughts, negative friends and family… remove it all! Keep only positive around you, and believe in yourself. When you believe in yourself and you truly love yourself, then you will automatically love and appreciate others around you.

Always…

Walk the walk.

Never…

Talk the talk.

So last weekend I went camping with the family for four days, and when I returned home, I got on the scale and was UP five pounds! WHAT?!?!? My diet was right on key (according to my food sensitivity test results). No meal was too large and I remained active with chasing the kids around and going on some adventure hikes. So what the heck is going on? I decided to go 100% raw for 30 days (pretty much for the whole month of July)… 1) I want to continuously cleanse without doing strictly juice for 30 days. Eating raw meals will allow for the body to cleanse while keeping me sane for the next 30 days 2) I absolutely love eating 100% raw (in addition to drinking raw cold-pressed juice). It leaves me feeling refreshed! Alive! and full of pure energy! After this trip, we’ll see where the weight is!

Today has been a really good day, aside from my little headache that has been lingering about. I completed a 45 minute HIIT workout that felt GREAT!! I lifted some weights and worked my abs… I was feeling pretty damn good! Not to mention that I had consumed a gallon of water between waking up and my afternoon workout… I am now well on my way to a gallon and three-quarters of water today… let the cleansing continue!!!

I leave for another camping trip in the morning and am writing down all of my raw meals and snacks for the outdoor adventure. So far, I have nori, wakame flakes, chlorella tabs, almonds and fresh fruits and veggies (according to my food sensitivity test results). I was ecstatic when writing down one of my favorite raw meals for the trip and knowing the convenience of putting this meal together, it was prime! But got slapped in the face when I looked at my test results and everything in the meal was everything that I CAN’T have!! Super BOO! Kelp noodles, cayenne pepper, sauerkraut and avocado… all in which are on my severe list with the exception of sauerkraut. boo! boo! boo!!

So!!! this trip will be planned simple, and nutrient dense!!

Here’s my food journal for today:

banana, blueberry and hemp seed bowl. one bag of baby carrots. two handfuls raw almonds. four sheets of raw nori. two large handfuls of chlorella tablets. by the end of the day, two gallons of water. a banana.

My eating has been simple but it has been keeping me satisfied while being busy. So all is good Days 3-7 will be up at camp, so I will share my diet when I return.

Cheers!!

Everything about the word enema screams unsexy!

Leave it to me to be completely unsexy, I’m beginning to make a habit of it!

What a beautiful morning it is!! And with the girls awake and a day off of work for my man… well I was just in the mood to kick start this day off right!!

So I got the family all situated with a warm heart-felt breakfast and prepared for myself, coffee… for my enema. Set it up in the room and then to keep from my extremely curious girls from asking questions, I approached my husband and whispered into his ear “I’ll be in the room.” (sexy) his ears perked and a grin swarmed his face… I looked at him puzzled like, what?!

Obviously he was seeing this as an invitation to join me… As he did notice the girls were taken care of and were occupied on eating their breakfast.

So I went with a more blunt approach, “I made my coffee, I’m gonna go do my enema.” (so NOT sexy!) he then jumped away from me saying “really?!” Lol!!! Yes REALLY!

So ummm… I’ll be in the room… And ummm… I’ll talk to you in a little bit…
Hahahaha….

I’m passionate about taking care of my body but sometimes it just gets… weird!!

As unsexy as an enema may be… try to put in mind all the sexy benefits that enema’s bestow:

1) Clears the colon of hardened accumulated toxic waste which are otherwise stuck
2) Unplugs the lymphatic system and reactivates the body’s natural detoxification system
3) Improves nutrient absorption so you get more from your food
4) Better energy levels and improved concentration powers
5) Improved immunity system
6) Clearer and radiant skin

On deeper levels, colon cleansing also has some meaningful benefits. An unhealthy person cannot be a happy person. We have long come to the awareness that mind, body and spirit are one, all three are inter-connected and closely related. When a person is suffering from physical ailments, they feel less optimistic, more easily overwhelmed and generally less happy. People are happy when they feel good in their bodies and when they are connected to their spirit.
And people who are happy, are also more likely to be compassionate, kind and generally more considerate. When a person is feeling good, he has more to give, more love to share, more sympathy and a bigger heart.
Indeed in today’s world where we are bombarded with conventional processed foods, fast food, artificial ingredients, hormones-laden processed meats, medications with dubious chemicals and many more potentially harmful additives, enemas are, I would say, one of the fastest and safest way of rapid detoxification. We can not afford to wait further because the level of global pollution in terms of air, environment, food and water, is constant and ever-increasing. Not only do we need to keep up with on-going detoxification, but we still have the previous accumulated layers to deal with.

Cheers!!

All week I have been telling myself that Saturday (today) will kick off my exercise routine. I wanted to go intense and I wanted to burn a lot of calories! Of course what did I choose to do… Turbo Fire!! Yeah, one of the most intense cardio workout programs I own (besides Insanity). There once was a time when I could fly through this program, sweat drip’n, heart racing and the victory of completing the entire DVD. Well not tonight!! It has been nearly 8 months since my last Turbo Fire workout and boy does it show! In the first 10-15 minutes I was on fire! Keeping up with Chalene and rock’n the moves! Both Keira and Tristyn were cheering me on with shouts of “go mom!” and “wow mom, you’re good!” to a vacant audience and me standing alone in the living room panting like a crazy person. I’m not kidding, my chest was on fire and no matter how much water I guzzled down, I couldn’t put out the flames. I would pace myself, get my breathing under control, and then go right back into it bust’n out the fire drills. During one of my breath catching moments, Keira had come into the room asking “Mom, why are you stopping? How can that girl (pointing to Chalene in the video) keep going and not get tired??” … ha ha ha… Momma needs more practice baby girl!

I had 18 minutes left of my 45 minute workout and was overcome with a headache… more than likely due to lack of hydration. I called it a night and DAY ONE of me being back into exercise mode.

Today’s Food Journal is very simple since I only craved one thing… NORI!!! Lol. Anyone who knows me knows that this is no surprise

Breakfast: one quart green juice

Pool side: 10 sheets of nori accompanied with a quart of green juice

Dinner: two red apples with almond butter

Pre workout and post workout: Vega supplements

When it comes to food, I haven’t been hungry… just maybe wanting food, or wanting to chew on something… I don’t know. I don’t feel deprived, but definitely satisfied.

Cheers!
